It has the ability to attract materials such as magnets, iron, nickel, cobalt. It can be found naturally in nature or produced artificially. Natural magnets contain iron oxide called magnetite in its components. The attraction force of the magnet is called "magnetic field". The magnetic field increases as you approach the magnet, and decreases as you move away.
Magnets act on substances with ferromagnetic, i.e. relative magnetic permeability greater than 1. Iron, nickel and cobalt are ferromagnetic at 25 ° C. When alloyed with iron (Fe), nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co) elements, they often retain their ferromagnetism properties.
What are the Types of Magnets?
Magnets are of three types. These;
Where does the name "Magnet" Come From?
The name of the magnet in Greek is "magnestos". This name comes from the region where an iron oxide type with the ability to pull iron was first discovered. And that region is Magnesia; that is, today's Manisa region.
How Magnet Poles Are Formed
In order for a substance to have a magnet property, it must first be a magnetic substance. Magnet attracts: iron, nickel and cobalt are called magnetic substances. The magnetism property stems from the insults of electrons in the structure of atoms. In an ordinary magnetic substance, small zones of millions of atomic groups, each acting like a magnet, are found irregularly. The substance does not have a magnet feature because the zones eliminate each other's magnetic effect.
When matter enters the gravitational field of a magnet, those small zones formed by atoms become organized and form an index. Thus, the magnetic material becomes magnetized. If the knee is broken, the substance loses its magnetism feature. The tip (N) of the magnets pointing north is called the power (S) pointing south. The part where the magnet's pulling force is the strongest is the end points. These ends of the magnet are called "poles". The opposite poles of magnets attract, while the same poles repel. No matter how small the magnet is divided into particles, it does not lose its poles.
