Magnet production, although it seems simple, is actually a very delicate and technical process. Interest in this began with certain metals in nature exhibiting spontaneous magnetic properties, which over time led to the development of artificial magnets. In modern manufacturing methods, magnets are obtained by processing specific metal alloys at high temperatures. During this process, atoms are arranged in a specific order and fixed under the influence of a magnetic field. Thanks to this order, the object can retain its magnetic properties for a long time. The amount of heat, pressure, and magnetic field applied during production directly affects the magnet’s performance.
The most commonly used materials in magnet production are ferromagnetic metals such as iron, nickel, and cobalt. These metals respond to magnetic fields, making them suitable for magnet manufacturing. Additionally, rare earth elements like neodymium and samarium are preferred to obtain stronger magnets. Thanks to these elements, magnets with high pulling force can be produced. Each material plays a decisive role in the magnet’s strength, durability, and usage area. The alloy and processing method are selected according to the intended application.
In the first stage, selected metal powders are mixed in specific proportions and pressed into molds. Then these molds are sintered at high temperatures; that is, the particles are heated to fuse together. After sintering, the cooled parts are prepared for magnetization. During this process, the piece is placed inside a strong magnetic field and the atoms are fixed into an ordered structure. Afterwards, surface processing and coating are applied, so the magnet has both an aesthetic and protective layer. The duration, temperature, and pressure applied at each step determine the quality of the final product.
